You're Not Wrong For Changing
A gentle reminder for those walking away to walk closer with God.
Dear, child of God,
Last week, I found myself sitting at a table surrounded by friends I had known for most of my life.
We were laughing about old memories, teasing each other like we always did, but somewhere deep inside, I felt completely out of place.
Not because I didn’t love them, I still did, and I still do. But I had started walking closer with God, and slowly, our conversations began to drift in different directions.
The things I now hold close, the ones that anchored me and make me feel alive, like prayer, conviction, and the word of God, didn’t have a place in those moments anymore.
When I brought up what God was doing in my life, I was met with polite nods or awkward silence.
One even joked that I was “too religious now,” and though I smiled at the time, it stayed with me for days.
I remember thinking, “Is walking in faith really supposed to feel this lonely?”
Maybe you’ve felt the same, my friend.
And that feeling might have made you outgrow certain friendships, not because you’re better than anyone.
But because the deeper you grow in faith, the harder it is to stay connected to what no longer feeds your soul.
And, you know what?
You’re not wrong for stepping back from people, places, and conversations that leave you spiritually empty.
In fact, Scripture tells us that this is a part of walking in faith.
2 Corinthians 6:14
“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”
You see, the above verse tells us to be mindful of who we allow closest to our hearts.
It is a reminder for us to guard our faith because even the strongest faith can start to dim when it’s constantly surrounded by things that do not reflect God’s word.
And, this isn’t just an idea from Apostle Paul, even Jesus, when He sent out His disciples, told them to shake the dust off their feet if people didn’t receive them.
But does that mean we shall harden our hearts and stop loving friends and family who don’t share our faith?
Nope, my friend.
It simply means we distance ourselves and don’t stay stuck in places that pull us away from God and who we’re called to be.
This is why Psalm 1:1-2 says:
Psalm 1:1-2
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord.”
See that? There’s a kind of blessing that only comes when we’re willing to walk a different way.
Not because we’re better, but because we’re becoming more of who God created us to be.
I know it is not fun and easy to do, but it is worth it in the end.
And if right now you feel a bit lonely in your faith journey, please know that you’re not walking alone, my friend.
God sees the steps you're taking, He knows what it costs, and He’s right there with you, protecting you and fighting your battles.
And, most importantly, He loves you more than anyone in this world.
Praise God, my friend.
