We Say God Is Our Refuge
But do we Stay there?
Praise God, my friend,
If you’ve been finding it hard to focus on God lately, you’re not alone.
Many believers wake up with a sincere desire to spend time with the Lord, but before even opening their Bible, they open their phone.
Then, get in a quick morning prayer session and a few more before meals.
And by the time the day ends, they feel distant from the very one they meant to draw close to.
Is this how we’re supposed to spend time with God, at our own convenience?
Psalm 91:1
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
My friend, “dwells” is the keyword in the above verse.
Dwelling means staying, not coming and going.
It means building your life around God’s presence, not fitting Him into your schedule when you get time.
Unfortunately, most of us have learned to visit God and not dwell in Him.
We meet Him in the morning or when we face a problem, and then get busy again with the world.
Psalms 91:1 says those who dwell will rest.
But if we keep talking and relying on God at our own convenience, then how can we expect to find rest or peace inside it?
I feel that’s where many of us fall short.
We say God is our refuge, but we don’t stay long enough in His presence to know what that really means.
We pray, but our minds are already planning the next thing to do.
Psalms 91:2
“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
You see, David didn’t just say that with his mouth; he lived it.
He didn’t turn to God only when things got bad.
He stayed with Him through everything, and that’s what made his faith strong.
My friend, that’s what it means to dwell.
It’s when our heart stays with God, even when life pulls us in every direction.
And, when we keep Him close, we don’t lose peace, no matter what’s happening around us.
So, my friend, let’s not just fit God somewhere in our day.
Let’s stay and talk to Him through it, no matter whether things go right or wrong.
Let’s pray together:
Lord, thank You for always being with me.
Help me to stay close to You and not drift away when life gets busy.
Teach me to dwell in Your presence and trust You in everything I do.
Lord, remind me that I don’t need to chase peace anywhere else because true peace is found only in You.
When my mind gets distracted, bring me back to Your Word.
Give me a heart that desires You more than the things of this world.
Let my thoughts, work, and days be built only around You.
And no matter what happens, help me to remember that You are my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray, Amen.
Praise God, my friend.
